If you have aspirations of being an all rounder in terms of coffee preparation, this duo is perfect for you to start with. The Barista and Brew Foundation Duo is a great way to be introduced to both the Espresso Bar and Brewing methods.

SCA Barista Skills Foundation
Barista Skills Foundation allows learners to gain an understanding of coffee itself as well as foundational skills required to operate an espresso bar. This includes, how to set a grinder, make espressos, foam and texture milk and latte art techniques as per SCA quality standards, while implementing health and safety practices and customer service.

What you will learn:

  • Coffee journey from seed to cup
  • Differences between Robusta and Arabica coffee
  • Introduction of specialty coffee and trends
  • Gain insight into the Bettr Barista coffee education system


SCA Brewing Foundation
Brewing Foundation introduces the learner to the different methods of brewing coffee in a theoretical and practical hands-on manner for a range of devices. This will include automatic and manual gravity brewers, as well as other commonly used brewers in Singapore.

What you will learn:

  • Introduction to Coffee and Coffee Extraction
  • The Essential Elements of Brew
  • Introduction to Brewing Methods

Mode of delivery

E-learning (45 mins) - What is Specialty Coffee? (You will only need to complete this once)

SCA Barista Skills Foundation

1. Virtual Classroom (3 Hours)
2. Practical (6.5 Hours)

SCA Brewing Foundation

1. Virtual Classroom (3 Hours)
2. Practical (5 Hours)

Virtual classroom: The theory components of the module you have signed up for will be taught by an instructor in a Virtual Classroom, on the date that you have signed up for.

Practical: There is then a practical component of the class where you will visit our Academy and be guided by an instructor on the hands-on components of the module you have signed up for.

Course methodology

  • Mini lectures to explain concepts and theories about brewing and barista skills, as well as basic coffee knowledge
  • Practical activities including role playing, demonstrations and practice time allocated
  • Mutual sharing and feedback

Course Fees

$960.00 incl. GST
The course fee includes course learning materials, SCA examinations and certifications. You will be eligible for the SCA Foundation Certificates once you complete the courses and obtain a passing mark for the theory exams (online).

Note: Theory re-exam/re-enrolment fee: S$40.00 (upon 2 failed attempts)

Students may also opt to not do the assessments if they choose to. There will be no SCA certification given in this case, but a certificate of completion from Bettr Barista.

Funding and Subsidies

Barista Skills Foundation is eligible for SkillsFuture credit and additional UTAP training benefit for NTUC members (for Singaporeans above 25 years).

Prerequisites

We require a minimum number of 4 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.
