SCA Roasting Skills Foundation will give you a fundamental understanding of the roasting process, including the roast cycle and how to control sensory aspects of the coffee by roasting light or dark.
It is designed to introduce the novice into the core skills and equipment required to produce great roasted coffee. Ideal for someone new to the coffee industry or those looking to gain insight into the broad subject matter of roasting coffee.

This course is also available as part of a combo (beginner + intermediate) and a series (foundation series). Get in touch to find out more. Discounts are applicable.
The course fee includes the online theory test. Any subsequent retests will be charged as follows:
Theory retest/re-enrolment fee: S$40.00 (upon 2 failed attempts)
The online exam link will be sent to you after the practical session has been completed
Students must complete the online theory test (2 attempts) within 21 days from the date of receiving the exam links. After which there will be a S$40.00 administration fee re-enrolment incurred due to the exam link expiration.
Students may also opt to not do the assessments if they choose to. There will be no SCA certification given in this case, but a certificate of completion from Bettr Barista.
E-learning (45 mins) - What is Specialty Coffee? (You will only need to complete this once, if you are signed up for multiple SCA Foundation classes)
Virtual Classroom (2.5 hours)- The theory components of the module you have signed up for will be taught by an instructor in a Virtual Classroom, on the date that you have signed up for.
Practical (6 hours) - There is then a practical component of the class where you will visit our Academy and be guided by an instructor on the hands-on components of the module you have signed up for. Please choose your practical date from the options above and indicate your choice at checkout.
Test - theory (online)
The E-learning module of “What is Specialty Coffee” is provided to all students that sign up for our SCA Foundation Courses, to teach you the basic coffee concepts. All students are required to attend as it eases you into the SCA framework.
What you will learn
You will receive further instructions on how to access this E-learning module once you have signed up for your SCA Foundation course.
We require a minimum number of 3 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.
