Description

This is a Blended Learning Course -- Refer to 'Inclusive of' section for more details. 

SCA Sensory Skills Foundation covers the essentials of sensory evaluation. You will learn about the way we perceive what we taste and how to apply it to the evaluation of the intrinsic characteristics of coffee, in a very practical and interactive manner.

It also offers an introduction to identify specialty coffee qualities and gain an overview on how to implement it in your day-to-day. No prior knowledge is needed before taking this module.

Please note that it is mandatory to complete your virtual classes before attending your practical classes.

Certification

You will be eligible for the SCA Foundation Certificate once you complete the course and obtain a passing mark for the theory exam (online). 

Note: Theory re-exam/re-enrolment fee is S$40.00 (upon 2 failed attempts)

Students may also opt out of the exam if they choose to. There will be no SCA certification given in this case, but a certificate of completion from Bettr Barista. 

Prerequisites

We require a minimum number of 3 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.

Inclusive of

  1. E-learning (45 mins) - What is Specialty Coffee? (You will only need to complete this once, if you are signed up for multiple SCA Foundation classes) 

  2. Virtual Classroom (2.5 hours)- The theory components of the module you have signed up for will be taught by an instructor in a Virtual Classroom, on the date that you have signed up for. 

  3. Practical (6 hours) - There is then a practical component of the class where you will visit our Academy and be guided by an instructor on the hands-on components of the module you have signed up for. Please choose your practical date from the options above and indicate your choice at checkout. 

  4. Test - theory (online)

Pre-Class Workshop

The E-learning module of “What is Specialty Coffee” is provided to all students that sign up for our SCA Foundation Courses, to teach you the basic coffee concepts. All students are required to attend as it eases you into the SCA framework.

  • Coffee journey from seed to cup
  • Differences between Robusta and Arabica coffee
  • Introduction of specialty coffee and trends
  • Gain insight into the BB coffee education system

You will receive further instructions on how to access this E-learning module once you have signed up for your SCA Foundation course.
