Brewing Foundation introduces the learner to the different methods of brewing coffee in a theoretical and practical hands-on manner for a range of devices. This will include automatic and manual gravity brewers, as well as other commonly used brewers in Singapore.

Practical learning objectives and activities prepare the learner to produce a tasty brew based on an understanding of the essential brewing elements and an analysis of their brew results. A written exam tests theoretical knowledge based on Foundation course learning objectives.

Mode of delivery

  1. E-learning (45 mins) - What is Specialty Coffee? (You will only need to complete this once, if you are signed up for multiple SCA Foundation classes) 

  2. Virtual Classroom (3 hours)- The theory components of the module you have signed up for will be taught by an instructor in a Virtual Classroom, on the date that you have signed up for. 

  3. Practical (6 hours) - There is then a practical component of the class where you will visit our Academy and be guided by an instructor on the hands-on components of the module you have signed up for. Please choose your practical date from the options above and indicate your choice at checkout. 

  4. Test - theory (online)

Course methodology

  • Mini lectures to explain concepts and theories about brewing skills and coffee
  • Practical activities including role playing, demonstrations and practice time allocated
  • Mutual sharing and feedback

Course Fees

$480.00 incl. GST

The course fee includes course learning material, SCA examination and certification. You will be eligible for the SCA Foundation Certificate once you complete the course and obtain a passing mark for the theory exam (online).

Note: Theory re-exam/re-enrolment fee: S$40.00 (upon 2 failed attempts)

Students may also opt to not do the assessments if they choose to. There will be no SCA certification given in this case, but a certificate of completion from Bettr Barista.

Prerequisites

We require a minimum number of 4 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.
