The Brewing Intermediate course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course. It is ideal for someone who has brewing experience and wants to further explore how to improve coffee quality.
This course covers a wide range of topics, including an exploration of the brewing process in terms of device usage; extraction order and wetting; the essential elements of brewing and their individual influence on the final cup; the scientific measurement of extracted coffee strength and charting a coffee’s extraction; analysis of brewed coffee and espresso and adjustments to consider in order to deliver a correctly extracted, well-balanced cup; and the importance of cleaning and maintenance.
A written exam tests intermediate course knowledge while a practical exam assesses the learner’s ability to Identify strength and extraction differences in brewed coffee; prepare brews from different devices and diagnose how to correct the recipe for a poorly brewed coffee from an automatic filter brewer.
THIS IS A BLENDED COURSE. The theory components are conducted in one session via a Zoom webinar, followed by two sessions of in-person practical class in the Academy.

Aspiring baristas, roasters and coffee professionals looking to grow their knowledge and skill in brewing
The course fee includes 1 online theory and 1 practical test.
Any subsequent retests will be charged as follows:
Online theory retest/re-enrolment - S$40.00
Practical retest - S$120.00
Students must complete the online theory test (2 attempts) within 21 days from the date of receiving the exam links. After which there will be a S$40.00 administration fee re-enrolment incurred due to the exam link expiration.
Students may also opt to not do the assessments if they choose to. There will be no SCA certification given in this case, but a certificate of completion from Bettr Barista.
This course is SkillsFuture Credit Eligible (for Singaporeans).
We require a minimum number of 4 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.
