SCA roasting Skills - Foundation (1 day, 9am - 6pm)

For: New/working commercial roasters, coffee geeks/enthusiasts
Recommended courses before taking this class are Sensory Foundation and Green Coffee Foundation.


The Foundation course gives a basic understanding of the roasting process, including the roast cycle and how to control sensory aspects of the coffee by roasting light or dark.

It is designed to introduce the novice into the core skills and equipment required to produce great roasted coffee. Ideal for someone who is considering a vocation as a coffee roaster.

Complimentary Workshop

This Foundation course includes a complimentary pre-class workshop that will be conducted on a separate day. The workshop runs from 10am - 12.30pm / 2 pm - 4.30 pm / 6.30 pm - 9 pm and covers:

  • What is Specialty Coffee - This benefits learners new to coffee. It offers an insight into the world of specialty coffee and introduces the Bettr Barista Education Ecosystem. Students will also learn to understand coffee aromas, flavours and how to taste specialty coffee.

This workshop is recommended (but not mandatory), and you can select your workshop date when you book your Foundation course online.



This course is SkillsFuture Credit Eligible (for Singaporeans).

The course fee includes 1 written and 1 practical test. Any subsequent retests will be charged as follows:

  • Written retest - S$40.00

  • Practical retest - S$80.00

We require a minimum number of 3 learners to run each class. If the number of sign-ups does not meet this requirement, learners will be notified and have their class rescheduled to the next available date.
